Roosevelt Refers to Public Housing as "Job of Defense" in Dedication.
Gettysburg, Pa.(AP)—President Roosevelt, referring to public housing as a "job of defense," said today that as long as the people of the nation realize that the government is working on that job and their homes are a part of it, they will whole-heartedly support the defense effort.
In an open car, he dedicated the low-rent home unit of the Gettysburg Housing Authority known as Linco Terrace Village.
He told a dedication audience of a thousand that the housing "another phase of defense work" and that it "has meant that on an average family, $500,000 had been spent in new homes and added:
"Since we have taken steps, nearly 2,000,000 more people have been given better homes.
