Mr. Johnson, who filled an office in the Boston Custom House, in which he was highly popular among the merchants, has been removed, to give place to a Mr. Willard, who is said to be distinguished for his incompetency. The Collector made the removal against the earnest remonstrance of a large number of merchants, declaring that he would have done it, if the remonstrance had had 5000 signatures.

Considerable excitement has been created. The merchants held a large meeting Tuesday evening, and appointed a Committee of 13, to report resolutions at an adjourned meeting.
