CHAIRMAN OF SCHOOL BOARD TELLS OF LOCAL SCHOOL SYSTEM GROWTH
The members of the Brooksville Lions Club, at their supper meeting last Thursday night in the Lewis Plantation dining room, listened with interest to a talk by B. A. Crum, Chairman of the County School Board, in which he gave some interesting figures showing the growth of the schools in this county.
Mr. Crum stated that, comparing the year of 1947 with the year of 1955, the school budget increased from $245,000.00 to $549,896.00. Teachers employed then numbered only 42, while now there are 72 teachers employed.
He stated that in 1947 there were only 925 school pupils in this county, while for 1955 they numbered 1798, an increase of 7 1-2 percent per year.
In 1947, he said the school system did not own any school buses, but the children were hauled by contract, while now the School Board owns and operates 16 buses.
Mr. Crum also spoke of plans for immediate expansion and stated that the next step, now in progress, is the building of four additional classrooms for the Primary School.
Kiwanians Hear Crum
Mr. Crum also made the same talk at the Tuesday noon meeting of the Kiwanis Club of Brooksville, and club President, J. D. Steen and other Kiwanians thanked him for the factual presentation of the important subject.
