"To-day being Sunday, at the suggestion of Past Grand Representative James Young, of Baltimore, the train of cars was stopped in one of the most wild and beautiful spots in the valley, and religious service was held by the Rev. Mr. Venable, of the Episcopal Church, of Kentucky, the Grand Chaplain of the Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows of the U. S. The location selected was in the shadow of an abrupt eminence, with an almost perpendicular sandstone formation towering hundreds of feet above our heads. To have seen almost the entire Grand Lodge of the U. S. and the ladies accompanying it, upon the green sward, bowed with uncovered heads in worship of God, with the echo of the voice of the reverend gentleman reverberating, while the beautiful hymns and responses of the church service were sung by several voices of acknowledged ability, was an incident never to be forgotten. I have frequently visited meetings and worshipped in the woods, but never before have I been so deeply impressed with the solemnity and grandeur of out door service as upon this occasion, and language fails me in giving you an adequate idea of the occasion."
