RACING DOGS
TO PERFORM
AT BRAWLEY
Members of the B. P. O. Elks
Lodge 1420, Brawley, are sponsoring
a gigantic program of greyhound
racing for their Christmas relief
fund. The entire proceeds derived
from the greyhound races as well
as from other sources will be de-
voted to the relief of the destitute
and needy of Brawley and the im-
mediate vicinity.
The Elk's Lodge remembered al-
ways for its philanthropic work
during the Yule season is finding
the demand for relief work greater
this year than previous years and
the decision to bring greyhound
racing to Brawley for three nights,
December 14, 15 and 16, was moti-
vated by the fact that the public
in general is vitally interested in
this new sport, which has proven
so popular in other localities and
also by the fact that the owners
of the racing greyhounds were de-
sirous of assisting the Brawley
Lodge in its endeavor to make this
year's Christmas a happy one for
the needy and destitute of this
vicinity.
The greyhounds scheduled to race
during the coming meet at Braw-
ley are considered the fastest racing
greyhounds in the country and re-
resent the cream of the greyhound
racing fraternity.
In addition to the nightly pro-
gram of greyhound races, the fam-
ous Hollywood Monkey jockeys will
be seen in action. The unique event
of monkey jockeys riding grey-
hounds will be witnessed by race
fans as one of the feature attrac-
tions during the three day race
meet. The Simian riders have at-
tracted record crowds at other
tracks throughout the country.
According to reports, these
monkeys ride just like humans on
horses. They start from the starting
boxes and come out leaning for-
ward on the dogs. They raise their
hands when clear of the boxes and
hold on for dear life. They are set
down in specially constructed
blankets worn by the dogs but also
use their tails in keeping them-
selves in place. This, one of the
many features, should be well worth
watching.

held on the high school athletic
field, Brawley. Thursday, Friday
and Saturday, December 14, 15 and
16, with the first event scheduled
to start at 7:30 promptly each
night.

nounces that a mammoth dance
and barbecue will be held at the
Elk's club at Brawley on Sat-
urday night, December 16, starting
immediately following the running
of the greyhound races.
