Full Text

We publish Senator Howe's letter, on railroads, in full for the interest of his constituents. The position taken by Mr. Howe, that no hindrance should be thrown in the way of railroad work in our State, we fully indorse. We certainly would rather have the railroads now built at the present rates of transportation than not to have them. Then if they are a good thing at the present status, more railroads will be more of a good thing.

Some of those who have read Mr. Howe's letter in opposition to legislative interference with railroad freights charge that this is a different song to the one he sung on the stump to the poor farmer and laborer. "ground under the heel of capital, monopolies," etc.

Well suppose it is-what of it. Howe is a Republican now: he was not a Republican then, but wandering round picking a precarious subsistence in the barren fields of greenbackism and independentism, and had to use such fodder as he found other cattle partaking of. He is now in good company and has better things.

Good associations are the first necessary steps to reformation.
