The Fire of Democracy.-We have high Federal authority for the increase of Republicans in this State. A gentleman of considerable consequence with his party in this county, lately remarked in company, that " Democracy would run through New-England like fire." The simile was very correct. It is the Fire of freedom and was caught from the Altar of '75. We should suppose, however, from the chagrin expressed by this gentleman and his friends at its progress, that it was more scorching to their feelings than was Nebuchadnezzar's furnace to the executioners of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
