To Correspondents
However flattering it may be to have the privilege of altering any communication sent for our paper, it is a privilege which we use with much caution, as our correspondents A Disciple of Washington and A Norfolk County Freeholder, will perceive.
It would appear that Mr. Newton's friends have been woefully disappointed in their majority in Nansemond allowing they through the Herald that Mr. Whitehead had obtained every vote that was given in Princess Anne or it would not be sufficient to balance the overwhelming majority, which Newton will obtain in the county of Nansemond. From this it is evident, that a majority of 207 at least was expected for Mr. Newton in Nansemond, and how many more, we cannot say, but his actual majority was 176, being 127 short of what was certainly expected.
Accomac District.--In the counties of Gloucester and Warwick Mr. Basset has obtained a majority of 223 votes; in 1809, his majority in those two counties was 35.
Mr. Love (the war candidate) has obtained a majority over Mr. Lewis of 65 votes. In 1809 the majority in that county against Mr. Lewis was 141. Mr. Lewis will obtain more votes in Loudoun than Mr. Love will in the district.
