Express Mail to the West--In a letter to the Honorable L. F. Linn, of the Senate, and Honorable A. G. Harrison, of the House of Representatives, the Postmaster General has stated his intention to put in operation an express from this city along the route of the national road to St. Louis, passing through the capitals of Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, and connecting by a branch with Cincinnati and the southwestern States.

He states, with reference to the experiment that has already been made of an express mail, that:

"The amount of postage on letters sent and received by the present express mail at the cities of New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Washington, during the last month was called for, and the returns received leave no doubt that the southern express, during that month, yielded a revenue exceeding its cost. That it will largely add to the general revenues of the Department, instead of diminishing them, there is now not a shadow of doubt."
