NEW-YORK, May 10.

FATAL RENCOUNTER.

In consequence of a publication which appeared in the Argus of Saturday last, containing some remarks on James Jones, Esq., which were deemed of a disrespectful nature, this gentleman demanded of Mr. Greenleaf, the publisher of that paper, the name of the author, who gave up as such Mr. Brockholst Livingston. A fracas took place on Tuesday evening, on the battery, between Mr. Jones, and Mr. Livingston; in consequence thereof, those gentlemen we are informed, met yesterday afternoon at Hoboken on the Jersey side of the Hudson; and it is with extreme regret we have to add that a wound received by Mr. J- in the groin, which opened a main artery, proved in a few minutes fatal to that respectable and worthy character.
