Full Text
All the land in this District now in market, has been applied for, every acre, and applications for hundreds of thousands more than there is land to satisfy, are now on file in the Register's Office.
Still, day after day, men come loaded down with land warrants. They come via Osage hungry for land. They reach Ft. Dodge where the land is sold, though their hope of getting any is ever so remote. They remind us of the Dutchman who enquired for sour krout, and when told that there was none in the house, requested the privilege of licking the stone that had been formerly used in pressing it. There is no more chance for a new comer to get an acre of land by application at the Government Land Office, than there is to get struck by lightning in snow storm.
