The Storm Claims Its Victims by the Hundred.
Fifty Six Vessels Lost-Many More Hopelessly Damaged and Many Not Yet Heard From. The Sea Gives Up Its Dead. Shores Strewn With Wreckage.
Boston, Nov. 30.-The latest reports from Cape Cod show that thirty-five vessels have been wrecked along the shore with the loss of a dozen lives. There are still many places to be heard from which cannot be reached by train and the wires are broken. This morning while the total loss of life cannot be estimated with any degree of accuracy, it is known that over two hundred have perished. From present reports it is known that fifty-six vessels have been totally lost, forty-nine are ashore or being saved. Barges not included in this estimate.
FIVE BODIES RECOVERED.
Orleans, Mass., Nov. 30.-Five bodies have been recovered from the steamer Portland. The body of Dudley Freeman is the only one identified so far.
Bangor, Nov. 30.--The steamer Pantagonet of the newly established New York and Bangor line is overdue and it is feared she has foundered. When last reported she was off Cape Cod on Saturday afternoon.
