Full Text

Paris, Sept. 3. The many Favours the King has heaped of late on our Academy of Surgery, as a Reward of the new Discoveries and Improvements they have made in this Art, are become a Source of Discord between the Surgeons that are Members of that Academy, and those who have not been admitted into it. The latter pretend they have been ill used by the other, and scruple not to say, that the Academy should either be suppressed, or else all Surgeons of this Metropolis allowed to become Members of it. In Consequence of which pretended Grievance, they presented a Petition to the King, which his Majesty resented to such a Degree, that he has exiled Eight of those petitioning Surgeons, and forbid a hundred more of them to be present at the Lectures at St. Come's School, 'til further Orders.
