Minnesota Cow Sets New U. S. Fat Record

A new butterfat record for all the world to shoot at has been set by a Minnesota cow. Tests made for 365 days under the supervision of the university's official testing section, W. E. Peterson of University Farm superintendent, May Walker Ollie Homestead, a six year old Holstein cow, is shown to have produced in the year 31,600 pounds of milk or 1,218 pounds of butterfat equal to 1,522 pounds of butter. This is the highest record ever made by a cow of any age or breed in America, says Mr. Petersen The average Minnesota cow produces 160 pounds of butterfat annually; compare that figure with the 1,218 pounds produced by the record maker. May Walker Ollie Homestead is owned by the Minnesota Holstein company of Austin. She can trace her descent from a long line of high producing ancestors. The uniformity of her milk flow from month to month was one of the interesting features of the year's tests, says Mr. Petersen.
