PHENIX, AUGUST 27, 1899.

THAT FORGERY.

The Republican yesterday branded as a liar and a forger the editor of an unspeakable sheet in this town who had caused to be printed an alleged facsimile letter that was claimed to have been written by Mr. F. M. Murphy of Prescott to the editor of The Republican, and challenged him to produce the letter and to produce the "two well known and highly respected citizens" which this forger declared had read the letter and stood ready to make affidavit as to its contents. As we expected, the forger fails to make good his assertions, contenting himself with an outpouring of filth. We repeat that he is "a liar and forger who ought to be behind the bars." He is a disgrace to civilization and to the profession which he is permitted to follow.
