Garroted.—On Saturday night last, at about midnight, a man who was stopping at the Illinois House, on J street, near Tenth, was garroted and robbed of a small sum of money. While crossing the street at Tenth and J streets, he met two men in the middle of the street. They separated as though to make room for him to pass between them. In making the attempt he found himself pinioned with the arm of one of them around his neck and the hands of the other in his pockets. When released, the thieves were out of the way before he could give the alarm.—Sac. Union.
