We hear from Salem, that the following disastrous accident happened there on monday last: Mr. Joseph Loring, a young man of that place, by trade a cooper, put a hand grenade (supposing it to be a solid iron shot) into the fire to heat, in order with it to melt some ice, but the grenade bursting as he took it out, wounded him in such a manner as entirely to deprive him of his left hand, and the middle finger of his right hand, he was also much hurt in other parts of his body—but is however in as fair a way to recover as could be expected.
