TO BE PAVED FROM END TO END-MIDDLE ROUTE TO BE FOLLOWED
Awards will be made in late June or in early July for paving the Greenville-Easley highway from end to end, the accepted middle route to be followed, it was stated yesterday by E. D. Sloan, division engineer of the State Highway Commission.
This announcement was made after highway officials had gained assurance that the right-of-ways would be completely worked out within two weeks.
Considerable difficulty has been encountered in securing right-of-way property just beyond West Greenville. At first, the survey called for encroachment on the Southern Railway company right-of-way for a stretch alongside Graceland cemetery, but this route was abandoned when the railway contested the route and county officials felt it more proper to change the course than to tie up highway project in litigation.
Agreements on a new route in the vicinity of the cemetery are expected within two weeks at the most, Mr. Sloan said. -Greenville News.
