WHY THE DELAY?
The organ and defender of the Ohio County Board of Commissioners appears to be disturbed because the Intelligencer calls attention to the fact that no effort has been made to collect the money illegally taken from the county by various members of the old board.
At the present time we have a Democratic prosecuting attorney; we have a solidly Democratic Board of Commissioners. The new board has been in office some three months. It has before it the report of two auditing bodies and the opinion of a judge of the Circuit court, all of which are instructions of the clearest and most positive character as to the line of action. Nevertheless they have not lifted a finger or made the slightest move towards recovering the public money.
It might be unkind to suggest that the fact that the board might have to sue some of its own members is one of the reasons for failure to bring the suit, but nevertheless the public will not overlook that fact.
In the meantime the essential thing is that these suits have not been brought, and no move to bring them has been started. No amount of bluster or silly slush will conceal that fact.
Again we ask: Why the delay?
