A LOSING CONTRACT
Suit to Enforce a Hop Deal Made Three Years Ago.

It is alleged in a complaint filed by E. C. Horst, through Holl & Dunn, his attorneys, that Joseph Spottswood, a Mendocino hop-grower, owes him seventy bales of hops or their present value in money, which is $2,100.

He claims that three years ago Spottswood contracted to deliver the hops to him between September 15th and October 15th of this year, the hops to be of this year's crop, but that he has not done so. Horst was to pay 13 1/5 cents per pound for the hops, but the latter are now worth much more. This is why Horst wants the hops, and also doubtless explains the defendant's backwardness in delivering them, although he has harvested his crop.
