Three of the New Brigadiers Will Be Assigned to the Philippine Expedition.
Washington, May 29.—Adjt. Gen. Corbin announces that three of the brigadier generals appointed by the president yesterday will be officially designated, as soon as the senate confirms the nominations, to command troops in the Philippines. The generals selected for the Philippines expedition are George A. Garretson of Cleveland, Ohio; Francis V. Greene of New York and Charles King of Wisconsin. Gen. Merritt, who is to be military governor of the Philippines, wired Adjt. Gen. Corbin requesting that Gen. King be sent with him to the Philippines. The request was approved and forwarded to Gen. King, and, so, becomes to all intents and purposes, a command. Gen. King is the well known novelist and an ex-officer of the United States army.
