PHILADELPHIA, May 11. By letters from South Carolina, dated as late as the 10th of April, we learn, that on the 18th of March, that gallant officer Capt. Rudolph, of Col. Lee's Legion, with Lieut. Smith, of the Virginia forces, and a few men, concealed under straw, in a small boat, fell down Stony river, and was brought too by the Allegator galley, mounting two twelve pounders, eight sixes, two threes, and a number of swivels, with forty men, stationed in Ashley river, for covering the left flank of the enemy's army encamped at the Quarter House, and guarding the passage to Charlestown: the instant the boat was along side the Allegator, Capt. Rudolph and his little crew boarded her, and after killing two or three of her people, got perfect possession of her, and took three commissioned and two warrant officers, with 23 seamen, prisoners; the others he liberated. But the wind and tide being unfavourable for bringing her off Capt. Rudolph was under the necessity of blowing her up.

Great praise is due to Capt. Rudolph for this enterprise, which was attended with as much bravery in the execution, as judgment in the forming.
