A Few Words From a Friend in Praise of
the Association.

So little has been said of our Y. M. C.
A. of late that we think the public ought
to know that this most excellent institu-
tion in our midst is still in a thriving con-
dition and is doing a work among our
young men that is out of the reach of
our churches, and our citizens and church
members, without regard to denomina-
tion, ought to give every encouragement
to and render all the assistance in their
power to the association. May God help
us to see and do our duty in supporting
and keeping up this helper to our
churches.

We had the pleasure of attending the
4 o'clock meeting Sunday afternoon and
we went away greatly benefited. The
meeting was conducted by James B.
Wood, who was assisted by Rev. Mr.
Cargle, a Baptist preacher of Mt. Olivet.
He took for his subject "The Wages of
Sin is Death," and he left a lasting im-
pression upon the minds of young men
that is bound to produce good fruit.
One of our prominent business men was
heard to say that he has received more
benefit from this meeting than at any re-
ligious service which he had attended for
a long time.

Mr. C. E. Phipps played two splendid
mandolin solos,
"Nearer My God To
Thee" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul,"
ably accompanied on the piano by Miss
Lizzie Trouts.

Now as to the excellent young man,
Mr. A. H. Lamb, the Secretary, he de-
serves the highest praise. He shows the
greatest abilities in securing attendance,
and workers to assist him in these ser-
vices on these warm Sabbath afternoons,
when the young people are thinking of
a pleasant walk rather than going to a
religious service. But he always has a
good attendance. Sunday there were
fifty-eight in attendance. Then the
rooms always look so tidy and inviting.
This brother certainly deserves the high-
est commendation from his Directors and
the public generally. May success al-
ways attend him and the association.

Main Argument

the ymca is thriving and provides essential spiritual support to young men beyond church capabilities; citizens and church members should actively support it, as exemplified by a recent impactful sunday meeting.
