YESTERDAY the Empress received a Courier from the Field-Marshal Count Munich, with the following Advices: That after his Expedition in the Crimea, where he left the People in an inexpressible Terror and Consternation, he was joined by the Field-Marshal Count Lacy, above Perekop: That both Armies being thus united, they marched with the utmost Diligence, passed the Perekop, had re-entered the Ukraine, and were actually then between that River and the Bog, in order to advance towards the Dnieper, and meet the Turks near Bender: That he had sent out several Parties to reconnoitre their Army, and was informed that they had made several forced Marches to reach that Place in Time, and had been joined by 20,000 of those Tartars that had been routed and dispersed by the Russians. Count Munich adds, That upon the Receipt of that News, he held a great Council of War, in which it was resolved to continue their March in Columns; but that the Army should join when it drew near the Dnieper, and march in Battalia against the Turks, with 89 Pieces of Cannon on their Right Wing, and as many on their Left. They write from Voronezh, that besides the Gallies lately built there for reinforcing our Fleet in the Sea of Azov, they are also building several Men of War and Frigates; and as there daily arrive here several Sea Officers from Foreign Parts, who desire to be received into her Imperial Majesty's Service, 'tis believed they will be employed in those new Ships. The last Letters which we received from the Army in the Crimea say, the Troops are very quiet in their Quarters of Refreshment there, but as soon as the Heats are over, they intend to begin a new Campaign in that Country, and flatter themselves to finish the Conquest of it before Winter: Those Letters add, that Donduk Ombo, Cham of the Kalmucks, having received Orders from the Field-Marshal Count Lacy to join him with 20,000 of his Troops, sent an Express to that General to pray his Permission to suspend his March till the Heats were over. The Tartars of the Crimea are under such a Consternation, and so terribly afraid of another Visit from the Russians, that they have not appeared in the Field for some Time past. A Foreign Minister residing here, has, as it is given out, received Letters from Constantinople, with Advice, that the Ottoman Porte had notified to the Foreign Ministers there, that they had concluded a Peace with the new Sophy of Persia; but this News is the more doubted here, inasmuch as the Persian Ambassador point-blank denies it, and continues to assure the Court, that the Sophy his Master resolves never to make Peace with the Turks but in concert with Russia.
