Post-War Planning
Discussed Monday
At Meeting

Chamber Of Commerce
Members Hear Raymond V. Long; Committees Appointed

Post-war planning for Clarke county was discussed Monday afternoon at the July meeting of the Berryville Chamber of Commerce by Raymond V. Long, director of the Planning Commission of Virginia.

Mr. Long said the purpose of the Planning Board is to improve the economic, physical and social conditions of a community. He said there must be an organization to put the plans in action, and cited several instances in Virginia where products are being shipped out of state for processing and then brought back and sold.

He deplored the inroads made by the Federal government on local government through relief agencies, and said that local governing groups must be revised and encouraged if we are to continue under a democracy. Planning, he said, is something that must be done locally by men who are aware of the needs of the community.

Mr. Long was introduced by E. Blackburn Moore.

Hobson C. McGehee, the newly elected president, presided, and named several committees. The post-war committee is composed of J. Edward Thoma, chairman; Edward P. Berlin, Dr. W. D. Cameron, Ralph N. Dorsey, Roy O. Locke, E. Blackburn Moore, Joseph F. Moore, H. M. Smalley, Roy E. Potts, A. F. Robertson and Ralph M. Ware.

The membership committee is composed of Maurice F. Wisecarver, chairman; Roy O. Locke, Ralph M. Ware and William D. Burtner, and publicity, G. Kenneth Levi. A new committee, that of luncheon, has Dr. D. Blanton Allen as chairman.
