LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (UPI)-
Gov. Orval E. Faubus said Thursday the federal government has not blocked all the legal avenues to opening of the city's public high schools this September on a segregated basis.
The governor explained that a special session of the Legislature still holds the key to the city's integration controversy.
"If the Legislature wanted to do something, they could," he said.
Faubus refused to say, however if he plans to call a special session this year.
Last August, a special session of the Legislature gave Faubus authority to close integration threatened public schools. He used the law Sept. 12 to close the four Little Rock high schools the 1958-59 school year.
