Washington, October 23.—The New York Tribune has the following from West Virginia.
The reports thus far are meagre: Ohio County has a gain of 500 Republican; Wood County 150 Democratic gain; Upshur 73 Republican loss.
The Republican majority in the State 7000.
Later.—The vote is one thousand larger than last year and the gains seem to favor the Democrats. The Republicans will carry the State by a reduced majority.
The New York World’s special from Wheeling says that the Democratic gains are general, and the State has gone Democratic by 2000 to 5000 majority.
No news has been received through the regular channel.
Wheeling, October 23.—Complete returns from Hancock and Ohio Counties show Republican gains. The Democratic majority in Ohio County is one hundred and twenty. In Brook County the contest is very close the Democrats will probably have a small majority.
Wood, Harrison, Jefferson, Mineral and Marion Counties show large Democratic gains. Marshall County is claimed by the Republicans by seven hundred majority, a Republican gain.
Partial returns from Mason County show small Republican gains. The Secretary of the Republican State Central Committee claims the State by a reduced majority, and the election of Daval to Congress in the First District. The Democrats expect large gains from the Southwestern Counties not heard from yet. The Democratic State Central Committee claims the State by a small majority. It will be several days before sufficient returns are received to indicate the result.
