TO CAMP AT FORT WRIGHT.

Naval Militia to Rendezvous For a Week at Fishers' Island.

Adjutant General Cole has issued to Commander F. L. Averill of the naval battalion orders for the annual tour of duty of the state sailors. The naval militia will not have a cruise this year, but instead will go to Fort Wright on the western end of Fishers' Island and camp there for a week. The Elfrida will accompany the naval militia and will be used in the drills during the tour of duty. Adjutant-General Cole's orders are as follows:

1. Commander Frederick L. Averill, commanding the naval battalion, C. N. G., is hereby directed to assemble his command at Fort Wright, on the United States military reservation at Fishers' Island, Monday, August 19, 1901, for six days' camp duty.

2. Commander Averill, on completion of the tour of duty, will submit a detailed report to his department.

3. The quartermaster general is directed to furnish necessary camp equipage, land and marine transportation upon approved requisitions from the commanding officers, including baggage, guns, ammunition, accoutrements and such equipments as may be required.

4. The commissary general will not furnish subsistence for the enlisted men while performing duty mentioned, but in lieu thereof, 30 cents each will be allowed for a day's ration, and the same will be carried on the payroll. Commissioned officers will provide their own subsistence.

5. Triplicate payrolls for duty will be made out strictly in accordance with law, and must be completed and signed on or before the last day of duty, one copy to be retained by the commanding officer, and two copies forwarded to this department within two days after the encampment.

The site selected for the encampment of the naval militia is at the extreme western end of Fishers' Island. It is about a half mile beyond the Mononotuc Inn and overlooks the Race and Long Island and Fishers' Island sounds. Fort Wright, in connection with Fort Michie on Gardiner's Island and the forts on Plum Island, guards the eastern entrance to the waters of Long Island Sound. The work on the fort has been in progress for three or four years past. It is now completed and the fort contains some of the heaviest guns in any of the forts on the coast. Commander Averill and several officers of the naval militia visited the fort yesterday, going over in the Elfrida.
