Event Details

A duel occurred near Marybone between Captain Gray of the Guards and Lord L-r, resulting in Gray's death. The quarrel started the previous evening over a gaming dispute where Gray called Lord L-r a liar, leading to drawn swords that were appeased by Capt. Collingwood. The next morning, Gray visited Lord L-r, who offered chocolate civilly, but they proceeded to the fields. A witness saw Gray attack vigorously while Lord L-r defended; Lord L-r's sword entered Gray's body, causing his death. Lord L-r expressed remorse immediately after.
