Everybody who has yet expressed
an opinion on the grand sensation
published in this paper and the Sun
yesterday morning, concerning the
capture of Boss Tweed, pronounce it
a first class sell, and there is no dis-
satisfaction expressed save by those
who swallowed the whole story-or
the story whole-and actually floun-
dered through the snow to the Court
house to look on the features of the
arch-thief, Boss
Tweed.
Nick O'Brien was prepared for the
throng who visited
him, and had
rigged up one of the county's Hiberni-
ian prisoners, who happens to slight-
ly resemble Tweed, so that those who
called to see the latter would not be
badly disappointed. Several gentle-
men who were in the secret, including
Slack, of the Sun, and a LEADER
reporter, became so weak and exhaus-
ted by prolonged laughter, that they
were taken to their homes in a very
critical condition, and have not yet
been pronounced out of danger by
their physicians. One good result of
the Tweed sell has been the making of
a fine path through the snow to the
Court house.
We cannot attempt even a slight
description of the thousand-and-one
sells perpetrated about town. Col.
Pease's store and residence were be-
sieged by his numerous friends, all
anxious to learn the extent of his
injuries.
The best thing we noticed, however
was Meyer's cigar sell. Everybody
who purchased cigars there was given
an article which looked like the
genuine Havana, but upon touching a
match to these April weeds, they
would be converted to ashes in a jiffy,
without injuring the buyer. After the
sell was consummated Moritz would
hand out genuine cigars.
