Roy Brown To Head Legion District 16
Major Roy J. Brown of Dunn was elected commander of the 16th District of the American Legion at the annual session held at Lillington.
He was unanimously elected without opposition and will succeed retiring Commander David A. Blacklock of Bunnlevel, who presided over the business session.
The district is composed of several southeastern and central Carolina counties.
Major Brown, a rural mail carrier in Dunn, retired last week as commander of Dunn's American Legion Post. He has been active in the organization since World War I.
He will be installed at the State convention to be held at Asheville on May 20-23.
DELEGATES NAMED
Elected as delegates to the national convention to be held in Washington were Prentiss W. Sloan of Lillington and T. L. Smith of Siler City.
Principal speaker at the district meeting was T. L. Smith of Siler City, division commander.

Retiring Commander Blacklock, in his activity report, showed that the district oratorical contest, held at Sanford in February was highly successful with 42 schools participating.

Delegates at the district meeting were from the following Legion posts: Lillington, Dunn, Erwin, Coats, Buie's Creek, Angier, Broadway, Sanford, Moncure, Goldston, and Siler City.

Attending from Dunn were: C. T. McGugan, W. E. Jackson, Charles Dorman, I. B. Dorian, A. L. Poarch, Edwin Boyette, Paul White, Mack Felton, L. A. Cavin, Roy Blount and James H. Johnson.
