THE Honourable the GENERAL CONGRESS have recommended that Thursday the 20th of July be observed by the inhabitants of all the English colonies on this continent as a day of publick HUMILIATION, FASTING, and PRAYER, on account of the present critical, alarming, and calamitous state of affairs; and to implore the merciful interposition of ALMIGHTY GOD for our deliverance, and a happy reconciliation with the parent state, on terms constitutional and honourable to both.
They have likewise addressed the inhabitants of Canada, on the common danger which threatens the rights and liberties of all America; shew the propriety of taking possession of the fort and military stores at Ticonderoga and Crown Point, and the armed vessels on the lake, a step which was dictated by the great law of self-preservation, they being intended to annoy the colonies, and to cut off that friendly intercourse and communication which has hitherto subsisted between them; and recommend to them to unite in the defence of our common liberty, there being yet reason to believe, that, should we join in imploring the attention of our sovereign to the unmerited and unparallelled oppressions of his American subjects, he will at length be undeceived, and forbid a licentious ministry to riot in the ruins of the rights of mankind.
