CURTAILING EXPENSES.

Uncle Sam Cuts Down Army Appropriations.

The failure of the powers at Washington to appropriate the amount necessary to operate the regular army affairs at the standard heretofore existing has had its effect at Fort Snelling as at every other post in the United States.

The appropriation is $100,000 short of previous years. At Fort Snelling it has become necessary to lay off Chief Engineer Hull, and to reduce the teamsters' pay from $35 a month to $30. It is reported that one or two teamsters have been excused from service.
