Full Text

From the Village Recorder.

If Jackson had set out to render his followers ridiculous, by their inconsistency, and could have done it without serious injury to the country, we might have laughed at the awkwardness of the figure they cut. If any one in 1828 had predicted the precise course he has pursued, he would have been tarred and feathered as a base libeller. A pretty dance he has led them!—The Constitution is a whale or a weasel—the Bank a blessing or a curse—a merit or a monster—as his majesty chooses—They see with his eyes—they hear with his ears—point up their thumbs to save, or press them down to destroy—as he shall set the example. No well drilled recruit ever followed fugleman with more accuracy. Nothing can be more obsequious. It is "yaw Mynheer" It is "Si Signior." It is "Si vous plait Monsieur," to all that comes, however incongruous or inconsistent from the "Greatest and Best."
