Some revealing statistics came to light in making a check of the active plant seniority roster the other day. The average age for the men still working is 55 1/2 years and for the women it is 54 1/2.
Frank Michalski, Johnny Mucci, and "Pinky" Wachowiak are working in their 44th year of service. Ralph Ullrich is in his 43rd year and Ben Maciejewski in his 42nd. Tops in service for women is Esther Mong who is in her 40th year followed by Clara Markwood in her 39th.
That all adds up to a heap of years of service.
Of the 87 men still in the plant, there are 68 of them who have 25 years or more of continuous service and in the women who number just a little over 60 in the plant today, there are 24 who have 25 years or more of service.
Now if we had a pension plan whereby you could retire after 25-years of service, regardless of age, we could make a lot of room for the people we have laid-off.
Overheard in the locker-room: "The difference between amnesia and magnesia is that the guy with amnesia doesn't know where he is going."
