Full Text

The exercises of the Alabama University have been suspended for several weeks and were resumed on Wednesday last the 22d. The cause of suspension was a difficulty between the Faculty and Students, relative to the destruction of the College Bible, the desecration of the pulpit and destruction of certain property, &c. The offender was a student and the fact was known in College generally, but his associates refused to reveal his name. The recess was given, that time might be allowed to discover the guilty perpetrator, and the Faculty have published a Circular declaring that no Student will be permitted to return to the institution who will not, on honour, disclaim all participation in the outrage and all knowledge of the name of the offender: or if knowing, who will not reveal the truth. The firmness of the Faculty is truly praiseworthy, and they ought to be sustained by the citizens generally, in so noble an effort to maintain good order and to punish such dastardly conduct.—Columbus Enquirer.
