A correspondent writes:

"It is now seriously hoped that there will be little difficulty in getting the Scots to pay an equal proportion of the land tax with the English; a thing become highly reasonable, and nothing against it but the articles of union, which the Scots consider as their MAGNA CHARTA.

To pave the way for an equal taxation, a trial is making in Scotland of the law of patronage, which is also contrary to the articles of union, but to which the Scots appear to submit very patiently; and proper means have been used to form a prevailing party even in the General Assembly of their church, that this preliminary measure being once fixed, the long wished for taxation may be easily carried into execution."
