Cotton Dying in Spots - Fine Corn Maybe They'll Vote Bonds Next Time High Prices - Personal
Correspondence of The Robesonian.
Buie, May 16 We notice throughout this community and elsewhere we have been lately, that cotton seems to be dying in spots. So much cold weather for the past few weeks is supposed to be the cause.
Mr. W. R. McNeill, one of our largest and best farmers in this community, has some of the finest corn we have seen anywhere.
The many friends of Mrs. W. H. Adams are glad to see her able to be up and about again, after an operation for appendicitis a few weeks ago. - Rev. and Mrs. Dixon of Red Springs were welcome visitors in the Buie section a short while Monday evening. - Prof. and Mrs. C. L. Cates leave today for Smithfield. From there they will go to Mrs. Cates home to spend a few weeks.
The road bond issue went dead, but it is an old and true saying, a bad beginning makes a good ending; so we will suppose those that voted against it started out with a bad beginning and will make a good ending by voting for it in the next election which can be called in 12 months.
We are sorry to report the serious illness of Mrs. F. E. Baxley, who is confined to her bed with pneumonia. - Mr. I. T. Brown, Miss Amanda Brown and Miss Laura Jones spent Friday in Lumberton. - Miss Vera Britt, who was taken several weeks ago to Fayetteville to be operated on for appendicitis, has returned home and is nearly well again.
High prices of foodstuff are getting to be a general complaint everywhere, and possibly nowhere else is it working a more severe hardship than it is with the Southern people, the ones who should be affected by it the least.
Miss Selma Adkinson of Purvis is spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Davis.
