Ramero was sentenced to pay a fine of $25 or spend 25 days in the county jail, but $15 of the fine was suspended by the judge. He paid the $10. Miller was sentenced to pay a fine of $25 or spend 25 days in jail. He also furnished the necessary money to gain his freedom.
O. H. McLaughlin entered the not guilty plea. He asked that he be given a trial by court and the date was fixed at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. He was remanded to the county jail in default of $250 bail.
A. E. Ruens, who was with McLaughlin at the time of his arrest, entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of being drunk. He was released under $25 bail for trial by court Thursday morning. John Dowdy, another companion, pleaded guilty to being drunk and was sentenced to pay a fine of $25 or spend 25 days in jail. The judge, however, suspended $20 of the fine and he was released upon payment of $5.
Manuel Miller, a companion of Ramero, paid $10 to gain his freedom after he entered a plea of guilty of being drunk.
Women Arrested
Julia Martinez, Marie Aguiree and Ignacia Martinez were rounded up by city police Saturday night during a visit to the East Side and faced Judge Perkins this morning, charged with vagrancy.
Julia Martinez pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to pay a fine of $75 or spend 75 days in jail. She paid the fine.
Both of the others pleaded not guilty when arraigned. They asked that they be given a trial by the court and the hearing was set down for July 28, at 1 p. m. Bail in each case was fixed at $100.
Miguel Valesquez, alias Gonzales, entered a plea of guilty to a charge of being drunk and was sentenced to pay a fine of $25 or spend 25 days in jail. The judge, however, suspended sentence on the condition that Valesquez remain sober here after.
He was arrested by Motorcycle Patrolman Van Bezel late last week when the patrolman found him walking at a dizzy pace on Main street. Taken to headquarters his pockets revealed a considerable quantity of jewelry when he was searched and an investigation was made by the police. The probe, however, proved that Valesquez was a hard working man and that the jewelry had been purchased by him.
