THE "COUNT'S" UMBRELLA.
After Beating Mr. Smith With It He Jabs Him in the Eye.

August L. Scott, a familiar figure on down-town streets, where he was known as "The Count," was held in $1,000 bail for trial in the Tombs Police Court this morning on a charge of assault preferred by George W. Smith, of 114 Nassau street.

The "Count" was taking his customary stroll along Park Row last evening, with his umbrella under his arm.

Smith requested him to carry it differently, when the "Count" struck him several blows with it, and finally jabbed the ferule in Mr. Smith's left eye.

The Count was taken to the Oak street station, and Mr. Smith had his eye dressed at the Chambers Street Hospital. The sight was not destroyed.
