Judge Speer and Party Off for Several Days' Sport.
Judge Emory Speer and party left Savannah in a private car last night via the Plant system for Florida, where they go on a several days' hunting trip. Others in the party are Mr. Marion Erwin of Macon, Mr. Albert Wylly of Savannah and Mr. J. G. Spottswood of Waycross. They will spend several days in Florida with gun and dog, and as every member of the party is an expert sportsman, some good results no doubt await them. Judge Speer is very fond of the hunt and when his judicial duties give him a day of leisure, there is nothing he enjoys more.
For the last two months Judge Speer and District Attorney Erwin have been quite busy in Macon. There was a large criminal docket to be disposed of, besides the ordinary routine work of the court. Judge Speer said last night he would convene the United States court in Savannah in February, perhaps about the first of the month. Court was to have been held here in January, but on account of the court martial of Capt. O. M. Carter, Judge Speer tendered the use of his court room to the military men for the time being, which tender was accepted by Col. J. M. Clous, the deputy judge advocate general. That trial begins Jan. 5.
