Full Text

We understand that Daniel Fitler, Esq. arrived yesterday from Harrisburg, with his commission as High Sheriff of the County—and was qualified by taking the requisite oath before Samuel H. Fisher, Esq. Recorder of Deeds.

Mr. Sheriff Fitler will enter upon the duties of his office this morning.

U. S. Gaz.

[Mr. Fitler was the Whig candidate. He received, according to the official returns, which exclude the Northern Liberties, only 5957 votes against 8164 for the Van Buren candidate; but the latter or a part of them, not being returned within the required time, Fitler, it seems, is elected, and has been qualified accordingly. The case of Fitler, we take it, is that of all the other Whig candidates in Philadelphia County, including eight Assembly men.)—Eds. Jour. Commerce.
