From Fort Augustus, an Account of a Party that went thither, we have they about 100 Men and some Prisoners fought with Lochiel, and some other, upon their return through The Mountains. Other Chiefs, and had been near Highland, and brought off 400 Head of Cattle belonging to the Rebels.
Another Letter from a Gentleman at the same Place, says, 'tis discovered, that some of the Rebels begin to equivocate with the Duke of Cumberland; for they bring their old, and almost useless Guns and Swords, and, with them, pretend to surrender themselves to the Duke; but some say, they leave their best Arms at home: From whence 'tis conjectured, that some of the Rebel Chiefs have got a French Promise that the Brest Squadron shall land in Scotland; and that, if such an Opportunity offers, these Rebels will once more abuse the Lenity of the mildest Sovereign, in permitting them to go home in Peace, and, by rebelling again, provoke his Majesty to root them off the Earth.
