One Lung Didn't Understand,

He Objected to Paying a Cartman for Time on Moving Day—He Finally Paid.

"Me no likee Melican man blar gain," remarked One Lung to Captain Kane, as he entered the police station this morning, in company with Mon Kee, a fellow Mongolian, and an irate cartman. "Me makee blar gain allee sames Ilish dilver, movee laundly. Hlm talkeo dollah halfee. Hio takee glocds Eighth and Tatnall chargeo tlee dollah. Me no savee, me playee."

The driver explained that he had agreed to move One Lung from one laundry to another for $1.50, but when the load of goods reached Eighth and Tatnall, he was forced to wait there an hour and a half before he could unload, and that, as this is moving day, and a feast for cartmen, his time was worth $1 an hour.

Captain Kane having been appealed to for a decision, informed One Lung that the cartman's charges were only just and must be paid, which was done under protest, after Hong Kong, another Chink, had explained it.
