FATALLY WHIPPED.--Mr. R. N. Hotchkiss is the teacher of the district school in the town of Prospect, near Waterbury, Conn. He is said to be of very irascible temper. Recently one of his pupils named Albert Chandler, aged sixteen years, committed some offence during school hours, which Mr. Hotchkiss thought was deserving of some punishment. This punishment he accordingly inflicted by whipping the boy with, as alleged, undue severity. He is charged with jumping on the prostrate body of the boy with all his weight. After this the child asked leave to go home, but it was denied until the school closed in the evening. The little fellow, after returning home, was put to bed and the nearest doctor summoned in hot haste. It was found that the boy's ribs had been broken, a rupture sustained and several other injuries, which time alone could develop. The boy's injuries will prove fatal and the resentment of the people knows no bounds. Fears are entertained for Mr. Hotchkiss' personal safety and he will be taken into custody to guard against immediate summary proceedings.
