His Skull Fractured and No Hope of His Recovery is Entertained.
Thomas Martin, a brakeman employed in the Cedar Hill yards, while going to his home at 52 Russell street, East Haven, shortly before 1 o'clock this morning was struck by a trolley car on Farren avenue and his skull was fractured. He went home on a Grand Circuit Corner car and got off on the wrong side of the car under the guard chain, between the tracks. A car coming in from Branford struck him and he was hurled to the ground. The car was quickly stopped and as the man was in a serious condition he was taken to the New Haven hospital in the Grand avenue police ambulance. It was found on his arrival there that his skull was fractured and that it would be necessary to operate on him. This was done at 3 o'clock and when the paper went to press it was stated that he was not expected to live through the morning. Mr. Martin is twenty-three years old and lives with his wife in East Haven. It was stated this morning that the man running the Branford car was not to blame, and it was Mr. Martin's own fault, as he got off on the wrong side and stepped directly in front of the incoming car.
