The State Officials who visited the Northern counties in the Valley of Virginia, speak very highly of the Fifty-fourth Pennsylvania Regiment, commanded by Col. Campbell, at Sir Johns Run, and the Tenth Maine Regiment, Col. Beall, at Harper's Ferry, Lieut. Col. Fillebrown at Charleston and Maj. Walker at Martinsburg. These gentlemen afforded the party every attention and contributed to their comfort and the success of their mission, and from every source evidence accumulated that the officers and men were gentlemen respecting the private rights of persons and property, and are unanimously popular and models of citizen soldiery.
