MARKET DAY
THE LAST MARKET DAY OF THE
YEAR ONE OF THE BEST OF
THE SERIES-EVERYBODY WAS
PLEASED.

The last market day of the fall was
a success. Only one other market day
surpassed it in point of numbers and
interest. The band played, the Gem
theater gave its free exhibitions and
the populace enjoyed the sports and
the heads of families viewed and pur-
chased vegetables for winter con-
sumption. The merchants did a rous-
ing business and disposed of plenty
of goods at market day prices.

The pony race for country boys
was a hot one, and Robinson won the
first prize of $3; Potter the second
of $2 and Allensworth the third, of
$1.

The next
race was for farmers.
They unhitched their horses from the
wagon, drove them on foot around the
block and hitched again. The race
resulted as follows:
1. Frank Claridge. $3.
2. Harry Clooten, $2.
3. Robert Edberg, $1.

The next was the pulling contest
which resulted as follows:
1. Williams McDonald, $3
2. Thomas Morris, $2.
3. L. B. Bardson. $1.

The following won prizes in display
of vegetables.
Potatoes:
1. Albert Van Nulind, $2.
2. William Robidou, $1.
Cabbage:
1. Matt Elison. $2.
2. Gottlip Huber, $1.
Onions:
1. Mrs. Garner. $2.
2. Albert Van Nulind,
$1.
Squash:
1. Mrs. D. Falconer, $2.
2. Mrs. Charles Schebbler, $1.
Carrots:
1. Albert Van Nulind, $2.
2. Mrs. Campagna, $1.
Beets:
1. Gottlip Huber. $2.
2. Mrs. Campagna. $1.
Rutabagas:
1. Albert Van Nulind. $2
2. Faix, $1.
Tomatoes:
1. Mrs. John Rodgers, $2.
Celery, Cauliflower and Parsnips:
1. Mrs. Campagna, $2.
2. Mrs. Garnier, $1

The display of vegetables was un-
usually fine. It was a perfect sur-
prise to many that such vegetables
could be grown in such a season. The
Commercial club is to be congratulat-
ed upon the success of these market
days.
