The following Account we had from a young Man, a Baker, of this Town. viz. That on Saturday being at a Tavern in Chester, on his Way home from a Journey, a Man, dressed in a Blue Coat, came into the Room where he was, who pretended likewise, to be coming to Philadelphia, but had no Horse : That after some Time the Baker set off for Town, when this Person immediately jumped on behind him, and rid with him in that Manner for some Distance, whistling and hallooing sometimes, as if he wanted some Body to come to him, and endeavouring to get a Gun from the young Man, which he luckily happened to have with him ; but finding he could not get it, he dismounted, and walked some Time by the Side of the Horse, holding the Man by the Leg, and at last left him, and went into the Woods : That then the Man put to, but had not rid far, before he was stopped by three Men from the Woods, one took his Horse by the Bridle (all the three being about the Horse's Head) upon which he fired his Gun, and wounded the Fellow that had hold of the Horse, as he imagines, in the Arm, as he then let go his hold, reeled back, and cried out O Jesus : That after this he put on again, but had not come a great Way, before he was stopt by one Man, who desired him to stand : but he gave him a Blow with the Butt End of his Gun, which broke it, and the Fellow quitting his Hold, the Man came off, and got safe to Town.
