Agreeably to the census of 1800, the total number of inhabitants was 5,261,067. In 1810, they amounted to 7,238,421.--Increase in 10 years--1,977,354. Allowing the increase to be in the same ratio, the numbers in four succeeding census will stand as follows:
Thus it appears, that in less than 40 years, the population of the Republick will amount to nearly twenty-six millions of souls. When we consider the rapid growth of the Western countries, and the vast emigrations from Europe, it appears probable that this calculation will fall short of the real number.
